A new world of indulgence and culture has been established in the Stiftsweingut Heiligenkreuz. Between 2009 and 2012 the team of the architect Oliver Massabni has been commissioned to revive the monastery winery, including the 30 hectare vineyard estate and the monastery building and to create a new tourist highlight in the countryside surrounding Vienna.

The 900 year old building complex was meticulously renovated in accordance with preservation guidelines and made accessible to visitors. Numerous rooms, previously unutilized were converted into event and conference rooms, as well as exhibition spaces. A wine shop serves as a selling point and show room for wine and specialties originating in Lower Austria. The monastry eating station was converted into a country restaurant serving upscale regional cuisine and wine produced on the premises.

At the heart of the new Freigut Thallern is the building which is annexed to the chapel from the year 1516, and which now functions as an indulgence-culture hotel. In collaboration with experts on historic architecture, we succeeded in preserving the vaulted ceilings and antique flair of various spaces. The hotel was authentically outfitted with a mix of historic and self-designed, contemporary furniture.
